Hi I,m writing this blog ,to try and learn how blogging works, and to help people restore their fireplace or fireplaces, themselves or to know what they need to buy to get a tradesman to do it. Maybe I can sell you some parts, maybe if I save you some money,or you find it helpful you can donate some beer money to me, whatever, I'm not proud!
I have been restoring antique fireplaces for more years than I care to remember,so I might be able to give you some tips, BUT I accept no responsibility for any thing what so ever, all ways wear goggles ,clothing, yarder yarder yarder,( I hate P.C , health & safety, disclaimers etc etc. )
There are four main types of fireplaces: tiled insert, ( above ) arch insert, hob insert and combination fireplace, these can also be tiled. Inserts need a fire surround hence the names, ( you insert the insert and surround it with a surround ) and a combination is a combination of the two) easy eh?

These are the most commonly used names for fireplace components ,NOTE,the most important measurement is the fireplace opening size, if you need ,bars back or a grate.I am try to get this under way ,but I'm finding it a bit difficult ,if you wish to contact me in the meantime,I'm at mailto:davepottsiow@yahoo.com
